Horseback Riding

Change up your perspective by viewing our beautiful landscape on horseback. Trail rides last 1, 2, or 3 hours and traverse scenic forest trails and mountain vistas. If you are looking for a truly western experience, consider a cattle drive. The Cowhands will teach how to help them gather their cattle and herd them on the 10,000 acre journey home. Other family friendly options to learn about the Wild West tradition include scenic and dinner wagon rides, pony rides, and Wild West Night a regular free summer event at the Keystone Stable.

-Wear long pants to protect your legs (no shorts)

-Wear closed to shoes (sneakers are better than rigid hiking boots)

Keystone Stables

Choose from a number of riding and family friendly options close by to our lodging accommodations. Keystone Stable is located in West Keystone and can be accessed by the free Keystone Shuttle. Be sure not to miss Wild West Night each Tuesday in the summer months.

Guided Horseback Riding

An experienced guide will lead you through the White River National Forest and share area history and information.

Scenic Wagon Ride

Sit back and take horse drawn ride through Soda Creek Valley to Keystone’s original homestead. Your wrangler will recant the historic tale of Keystone’s settlement and transition into a ski resort. Mid way through your journey you will stop at the original homestead for cold beverage and to learn about the horses.

Dinner Wagon Ride

Take a scenic 30 minute ride through the Keystone Valley, on a hay free horse drawn wagon. Your wrangler and guide will teach you about the beginnings of Keystone, and introduce you to the horses. Dinner will be served when you reach your destination at the historic Keystone Homestead. While you dine and mingle enjoy live traditional guitar music. Also at the homestead, try your hand at cattle roping, play horse shoes, and enjoy the fire pit (availability pending fire advisory).

Dinner Menu

Dinner is served buffet-style: garden salad, grilled BBQ chicken, smoked ribs, corn on the cob, Durango beans, corn bread muffins and apple pie a la mode. Vegetarian option is Boco Burgers instead of chicken or ribs.


All non alcoholic beverages are included. Liquor, beer, and wine are available for purchase.

Meet at the Adventure Center in Lakeside Village at 4:30. A shuttle will take you to the ranch where you will meet your wrangler and embark on the wagon ride. The shuttle will bring you back to Lakeside Village at 8:00.

Pony Rides

Kids ages 3-7 can enjoy pony rides at the Keystone Stables. The ponies are led by the parent through the coral, and last 15 minutes. No reservations are needed, and are available 10:00-3:00 daily. The price per child is $11.

Wild West Nights

Every Monday this summer mosey on over to the Keystone Stables at 5:00 for a family friendly western movie. There will also be a campfire and s’mores, horseshoes, lassoing, and food and beverages available for purchase at the Giddy Up Grill.

A special guest, The Colorado Mountain Man will join the fun for select dates. Round up to the campfire to listen to authentic Colorado history, cultural heritage, and environmental issues. June 20th and 27th; July 18th and 25th; and August 15th, 22nd, and 29th.

Cattle Drives

Whether you are an expert rider, or a never ever; a cattle drive is a unique experience everyone can enjoy together. A cowhand will teach you how to help them drive the herd across a 10,000 acre open range with panoramic views of the Continental Divide. The ride last 3 ½ - 4 hours, upon your return a homemade meal awaits.

Saddle & Paddle

Two of our favorite Key Club Member companies Rusty Spurr Ranch and Kodi Rafting CO have teamed up to offer an unforgettable day of fun! Start your day at the Ranch with a two hour trail ride, take a break mid-day and enjoy an inclusive homemade lunch. Head to Kodi Rafting Headquarters to meet your guide and cool off on the Upper Colorado River ½ day trip.
