One of my favorite holiday traditions of the year takes place at Keystone. If youve rented your property from Key to the Rockies, then youre one step closer to discovering a magical night: The Fondue Chessel.
For years, weve been meeting other local friends at the Chessel to celebrate the holiday season. If we cant coordinate schedules, we take our teenagers instead and never have to convince or drag them with us. Its THAT much fun.
The evening begins by grabbing blankets and hopping on the River Run gondola. From there, we walk to the second gondola and glide through the air, slowly making our way to the lodge. As the gondola dips down into the dark valley below, we light candles and sing Christmas carols. When we arrive at the lodge, we peel off our parkas and enter the Great Hall, which is filled with long wooden tables and a roaring fire. Flags from around the world drop down from the massive log ceiling, and tiny white lights twinkle throughout the room.
The meal comes in courses: bread to dip in traditional cheese fondue followed by salad, a selection of game and/or seafood, raclette, and is then completed with gourmet chocolate pots. Austrian minstrels play throughout the evening, and everyone gets up to dance when they play the Chicken Dance. Its a swinging good time.
Pricey? Yes. I wont lie to you about that, but its well worth the experience.
